Volunteer or Intern with The Wilderness Society's 30x30 Campaign
Green Corps is partnering with The Wilderness Society's 30x30 campaign. Climate change and species extinction are rapidly destroying our ecosystems. 30x30 gives us the opportunity to mitigate the effects of climate change and  slow the increasing loss of irreplaceable species. Colorado and our elected officials have the opportunity to lead at the state and federal level in 2021. Over the next several months, we will be organizing community events, working with the media, collecting petition signatures, and building a broad coalition of local groups to protect public lands.

We are looking for motivated students to help lead this effort. Interns will lead and assist with a wide variety of campaign tasks. Good verbal and writing skills are important as interns will recruit and train volunteers, and lead meetings. Applicants should be willing to devote at least 10 hours per week to campaign work, but schedules can be adjusted to accommodate class, work, and personal preferences.

Term:
We are looking to hire interns immediately, to work through the beginning of April.

Location:
This campaign is entirely remote due to COVID-19. The work and meetings will take place via phone and video calls.

Hours:
Approximately 10 hours per week preferred for Interns. Schedules are flexible around class and work!

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Candidates should be interested in delving into environmental issues and developing skills such as public speaking, managing and training volunteers, campaign planning, and  how to organize people who care about an issue to make a big impact. This is an excellent opportunity to build your resumé, receive hands-on training and experience (including 1-on-1 meetings with your supervisor), and leave a lasting impact in your local and global community.

Petition: Dear Elected Leaders,Nature, like the climate, is at a tipping point. Hundreds of scientists agree that protecting 30 percent of our planet’s land and water resources by 2030 is a necessary step we must take in order to leave a healthy, livable environment for future generations. With a growing number of animals and plants facing extinction, wild nature is rapidly disappearing to development and climate change, further imperiling the health of our ocean and lands. Scientists are urging bold action to protect nature. Our nation’s public lands can be a solution to the climate and extinction crises. We need to enact locally-led 30x30 related policies and laws that successfully conserve nature for future generations and harness the power of nature to fight climate change. We need to reverse and prevent further conservation rollbacks on public lands to protect critical ecosystems and sacred cultural lands. We need to build a system of protected areas and restore degraded lands that together sustain a thriving diversity of life.
